In addition to private lessons either once or twice a week, Ms. Freeman's students are involved in recitals, chamber music, orchestras, solo competitions, community outreach, and teaching. They play in their school orchestras, and are frequent principals in regional and state wide Honors Orchestras. Some of the groups with which they have performed as soloists, concertmasters, and section members include the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, the Orange County Youth Orchestra, American Youth Symphony, Santiago Strings, Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA) Orchestras, the Irvine Classical Players, the Irvine Young Concert Artists, and Les Sommets of Orange County, CA.
Dana Freeman's students are also frequent prize winners in local competitions such as SYMF (Southern Youth Music Festival), The South Coast Symphony Young Stars of the Future, the Long Beach Mozart Festival, and the Music Teachers Association Concerto Competition and VOCE (Vocalists, Orchestral Instruments, Chamber Music, Ensembles.)
Additionally, Ms. Freeman's students participate in the Certificate of Merit, a comprehensive music education program offered by the Music Teacher's Association of California to develop technique, ear training, sight reading, and understanding of music theory. Freeman’s students have consistently demonstrated exceptional skill and knowledge in their performance and written exams, from the beginning to the most advanced levels.
Local Chamber Music opportunities include JCM (Junior Chamber Music), Pacific Symphony’s Opus 321 program, the Music Teacher’s Association VOCE competition, and Chamber Music workshops and festivals organized by UCI (University of California at Irvine), Chapman University, and California State University in Fullerton. Ensembles from Dana Freeman’s studio have won first place in the American Prestige Competition, and have been finalists for JCM and VOCE.
